{fyi this is the longest post ever, and it's mostly for me so i totally understand if you don't make it through the whole thing or if you ignore it based on size alone. but hey it was one long day, thus length fits}
we woke up early, 4:30am early so we could make it to the hospital by 5:30. i got dressed woke up sam who had slept upstairs in the guest bedroom since he had gotten sick just days before. i called the hospital to make sure they still had room for us. then i made sure we had all the boys things ready, and i tried to eat something. it was early so i downed a couple of strawberries and some toast. we loaded the car and drove (with the back window open so isaac's bike would fit) over the our friends the brook's. yes we have friends that will even take our children at 5:00am, lucky huh? we arrived at the hospital right around 5:30 and entered through the er since that is the only entrance open that early. they sent us up to the 3rd floor. when we got there they told us my room would be ready in just a few minutes and we could wait out in the waiting room. we weren't out there too long but they did let in two other women while we where waiting (one who had a scheduled c-section, one who was coming to have the baby monitored, so at least they were there for different things, right?). when they lead us back it was right to the room which we were in just two weeks before for the version, good old #5. It was actually nice that i had been there because they had all the info still in the computer and i didn't have to play 50 questions. i did however have to get a new iv and new labs done. they also hooked up the monitors on the baby and then we started the waiting game. they started the pitocin at 6:30ish and my dr came to see me. she said i was still a 3 like i was when i got there that morning(i was impressed with a 3 personally i don't think i've been that far along when i went to the hospital to have the others). but she also said she though he'd probably be here by like 11:00-12:00 if not earlier, which is what i was expecting since everyone of the boys has come faster than the previous one and truman was early afternoon. she tried to break my water but it didn't seem to do much and it didn't feel all that great since i wasn't numb yet. i was up for getting an epidural early, i've felt contractions with the others i didn't need to wait a long time. but of course both anesthesiologist at the hospital were busy one was in a pediatric surgery and the other in a c-section. so later than i wanted, i got an epidural, it went in a little rough as the numbing shots she gave me didn't really work on the left side at first and she had to give me more. then after a little while my right side felt tingly and warm but my left side not quite as much and i had a cold spot on the left calf weird but i wasn't feeling my contractions anymore so whatever. sam spent his time looking up new names(like we needed anymore confusion) but he was having fun, taking pictures, watching a little tv, and answering texts. i was 1/2 asleep, 1/2 awake since i hadn't slept all that well the night before and had woken up so early. we watched a little price is right and i don't remember what else. the next time the nurse came and check me and left i realized she didn't tell me what i was so the next time she came in for something i asked, she said oh your still a 3, i heard that lots over the next few hours. my dr came back in the afternoon and said pretty much the same thing, and they decided to give my a new bag of pitocin, broke my water again, and we were hoping that by like 4:00ish we'd have a baby. just before this is when i think my epidural started to wear off for the 1st time. the anesthesiologist came in and gave me another dose of medicine. i was laying on my left side and after a while my left side got numb but my right side didn't. after a while she came in and gave me another dose this time i was just on my back hoping that it would spread more evenly. it still didn't work and by this time i was feeling everything on my right side. after a while sam tried to find my nurse but she was busy in another room. i was about to call my dr. and then i realized i had an even better person to ask about this, my dad. i quickly called my dad and told him what was going on. he told me to try and lay on my right side for a little while but if that didn't work to ask the anesthesiologist to try and reposition the catheter a little more to the right and then try another dose. he told me if that didn't work she would have to redo the epidural(which wasn't my favorite idea). since my nurse was still m.i.a. sam went out to the nurses station and asked if they could just send the anesthesiologist back. after a little while she showed up and was just going to give me another dose. i told her that i had not been able to find my nurse for a while and so had called my anesthesiologist father. i told her that he said this can happen sometimes with the medication favoring the left side only, and my dad said that sometimes it helps to reposition the catheter, and if that didn't work sometimes you just have to redo them. so can we try to reposition it i asked, i was a little worried she might be offended but she seemed okay and said we can try that. so she pulled the catheter out a little and gave me another dose. after a little while i could finally feel my right side going numb and the pain of the contractions getting better and better. i never got numb enough that i didn't know when i was having one but it was much, much, much better. this all by the way took almost as long as reading it, several hours. my dad also told me that sometimes it takes an abnormally long time to get going after you've had a few kids but once you do it will all happen pretty fast, my dr also told me the same thing. all these hours sam was on picture duty and every so often would take pictures and then i would take pictures to help pass the time. sam ran down to the cafeteria at one point so he wouldn't pass out and got a burger and onion rings. he said the burger wasn't very good but that the onion rings weren't bad. oh that reminds me we watched the cooking channel a lot, people thought i was crazy to be watching it since i was probably starving but it didn't really bother me. and at one point( i'm guessing the noon-ish visit) when bethany came by to check on me she told me to have some clear liquid type stuff cause maybe getting some sugar in me would help. so i did have some gatorade and jello. when bethany had come back at 4:00ish and i was still a 3 she had told me she would be back around 6:00-7:00 to check on me. i felt a little bad for messing up her friday night especially since her brother had also had my kids all day long too. finally around 7:00 ish the nurse came in the checked me and said i was an 8+, thankfully all the epidural madness had ended shortly before this, and they rushed to call bethany to get back so i could have #4. she got there and next thing i knew he was here after only a few short pushes. he had, had the cord rapped around his neck but had never shown any signs of that. she set him right on my stomach and i got to see him for the first time purple and bloody and all. they then took him to get cleaned up, get foot prints and measure and weigh him. he weighed 6lbs. 9oz. and measured 18 1/4 inches long, my smallest baby yet. then they brought him back to me. there is nothing in the world like holding your brand new baby, words can not describe. after finally getting him to eat a little they had to take him off to the nursery and sam had to leave to go and get the kids we had farmed out for the day to the brook's and reed's. so i moved rooms alone, they finally brought the baby back to me, and i told sam good night on the phone after he had gotten our other 3 boys to sleep. #4 had great the first night and would just eat and then go right back to sleep. #4 is finally here. (oh i know you think this is long but i could have told you about the throwing up and the worrying that about kids at home and the texts and calls we got and sent all day, no he's not here yet. or the funny nurse i had for the actually delivery that seem a little deer in headlights-ish.)
